Building a healthier future for people and the planet

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We are committed to improving lives and protecting the planet, with every action reflecting our dedication to a better tomorrow.
Committed to sustainability

Our three sustainability pillars guide our efforts to ensure excellence, safety and sustainability in everything we do.

  • Health and well-being

  • Communities and workplaces

  • Responsible production

Health and well-being

We produce solutions that enhance health and well-being with a strong commitment to safety and quality. Guided by strict polices and industry-leading standards, we ensure excellence at every step of the production process.

Responsible production

We promote circularity and a sustainable economy by creating value from collagen-rich by-products from various industries and repurposing our own by-products. We strive to minimize energy and water usage, as well as greenhouse gas emissions.

We also prioritize ethical sourcing through strict supplier compliance and robust traceability. All of our facilities are registered with the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex), the largest collaborative platform for sharing ethical supply chain data.

Sustainable sourcing

Where we stand on key issues

CO2 emissions

Our parent company, Darling Ingredients, aims to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030.

Water use

We responsibly manage the water used and generated in our operations. Committed to reducing water risks, we continuously monitor, recover and reuse water to improve efficiency.

We are a member of the Gelatin Manufacturers of Europe (GME), which has a sustainable development committee focused on the environmental, social and economic aspects of the European gelatin industry.

Deforestation

We strictly follow all regulatory requirements when sourcing materials and hold our suppliers to the highest standards of responsible sourcing. Our thorough monitoring and audit processes ensure compliance, and we immediately end partnerships with suppliers that fail to meet our criteria. We require all suppliers of animal-based co-products to have strong environmental policies in place. In Brazil, we mandate that all suppliers be certified by the Leather Working group (LWG), a global leader in eliminating supply chain deforestation. For suppliers in the Amazon region, we require compliance with the LWG Gold Standard, the highest benchmark for environmental performance.

Responsible sourcing

We ensure full understanding of the supply chains we use and have implemented strict traceability systems to track our raw materials. We require all suppliers to comply with regulatory requirements and provide necessary traceability documents. By partnering with suppliers that meet our standards, we promote an industry that values traceability, animal welfare, safety and sustainability.

Our raw material suppliers must guarantee that their materials are sourced from authorized establishments, with animals fit for human consumption, inspected by veterinarians and compliant with relevant animal welfare regulations.

Animal welfare

Animals should be treated with respect, and we are committed to support all reasonable measures aimed at improving animal welfare, based on the “Five Freedoms” defined by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). As a member of the Gelatin Manufacturers of Europe (GME), we are dedicated to animal welfare, along with other European gelatin manufacturers. GME strongly supports the full implementation and strict enforcement of all EU animal welfare legislation, in alignment with the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy.

Human rights

We are committed to respecting and upholding fundamental human rights in all of our business activities and to working with customers, suppliers, agents, contractors, consultants, vendors and partners who share the same standards.

We prohibit the employment of underage children and the use of forced or compulsory labor in all of our global operations and expect our suppliers to do the same, as outlined in our
Supplier Code of Conduct and Human Rights Policy.

All of our sites are currently registered with Sedex, a world-leading ethical trade organization that helps businesses improve working conditions in global supply chains. Sedex assesses labor standards, workplace health and safety, environmental practices and business ethics. Rousselot has been a member of Sedex since 2010.
