Why gelatin

As an ingredient, gelatin offers manufacturers several benefits that make it stand out from the rest. These include:

Clean label

Gelatin is classified as a foodstuff – not a food additive - and has received GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status from the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). A food ingredient with no E number, gelatin appeals to consumers seeking clean labeling on their products.

Unique properties and functionalities

No other ingredient exhibits as many functionalities and properties as gelatin, which makes it an unrivaled asset to formulation design and to shorter ingredient lists.

Sustainability

Originating from the meat processing industry, gelatin is an upcycled ingredient that contributes to a circular and more sustainable economy.

How it works

Production process

101124_Rousselot_1up_Gelatins.png

Our gelatins are obtained by means of partial hydrolysis of collagen which is found in the bones and skin of bovine, porcine, and fish sources. We use two processes for manufacturing gelatin: alkaline or acid. Every stage of the process occurs under strict hygienic conditions and throughout the entire manufacturing process no chemical modification takes place.

Select your application!

Whether designing dietary supplements, functional foods, or working in the biomedical field, our gelatins can help you overcome technical challenges to achieve superior products.
